Thank goodness it's Friday! What a crazy week it was. Sofia turned 9 months on Monday and I haven't had a chance to put together even a small post. It's so great I get to work from home otherwise I don't know how I would stay late at the office.
She is such a big girl now! I can't believe it. To me it seems like she was just born and yet almost a year had past! Anyway...
She got 3 more teeth at the top. One more is coming up. She is crawling all over. We already started baby proofing, put bumpers on some corners. She loves walking (assisted). If she can lean against something she can stand by herself. She can now eat finger foods, i love it! She can waive hello and knows where mama and daddy is. And also where is the ceiling light, so random i know! Hew favourite "words" right now are "eeeennn" and "mmmm.. dya". The latter one is particularly funny because in Russian it sounds like "hmm..yeah!"

What are you up to this weekend? I am planning to do some home office space organizing and hopefully shopping for more yarn (yay!), and then watching the Oscars on Sunday, (well actually just an hour of it, Sofia has to go to bed at 9).

I made this jam for the second time last weekend. I guess I am quite addicted to it. It's just Meyer lemons thinly sliced and boiled with sugar for 30 minutes, but it tastes so good. Especially on a gloomy rainy day like today!

Sofia is eight months old today! Eight months seemed so big to me before, I can't believe how fast it goes.
She started crawling this month. Although she loves standing much more and loves assisted walking. She also figured out how to bend her knees and pick up toys from the floor. She hates bath time. She gets so panicky I have to wash her really quick or get in into the tub with her. She is still not crazy about solid food. More or less she likes apples, pears and broccoli. Her favourite toys are still the labels, it's so funny. She also loves this blanket wish the sheep head she got for christmas, every time she sees it she gets so excited. My mom had to hold it for her so I could take this picture.

This soup is super easy to make and it tastes so good on a cold winter day!
There is like a million of recipes but I like this one by my mom:

- 2 large potatoes
- 500 g. broccoli
- 1 onion
- 1 carrot
- 100 ml. of cream
- 1L of water
- salt and pepper to taste

Boil potatoes in salted water until almost done, 15-20 minutes. Add broccoli pieces and boil 5 more minutes. In large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, cook sliced onions and carrot until soft. Add to the soup, boil 5 more minutes. In food processor or blender puree soup until smooth. Return to pan, stir in cream and heat through.

Sofia turned 7 months old yesterday! It goes so fast, I can't believe it.
She learned so much this month. She can sit unsupported. She loves standing. Yesterday she pulled herself up to stand in her crib for the first time. I almost cried! Our baby is growing up! She talks a lot. Her favourite right now is dadada and nanana. She even said mama once. It's not intentional yet but still :)

I've been into crocheting a lot lately. I am still learning, these are some ornaments I made over the past few weeks.

I took these photos with the old manual focus Helios 44 lens from my Russian Zenit film camera. I smashed my beloved 50mm 1.4 on the floor and now they need to be sent for repair. Focusing wit Helios was quite a challenge but I am happy overall. I don't think they will work for taking photos of Sofia though, that baby can not sit still any more!

This Sunday Sofia turned six months! Some new developments:
She cut two teeth at the bottom! I couldn't believe it at first when I saw two little white spots on her gum :) She is becoming very wiggly, always wants to move. She can't sit unassisted just yet but she's really trying to crawl. She loves all kinds of labels and tags, that's her favourite toy. She loves being in new environments and around people. She also had her first solid food, a little piece of apple. I used a mesh feeder and she ate almost the entire slice. Looks like she really liked it!

Normally it was just Anton and I celebrating the holidays since both of our families are in Ukraine. But this year will be special. It's Sofia's first Christmas plus both of our parents will be here. I better start putting together the gift list.

Our little Sofie is five months old. She is learning new things every day. She can now roll over from her back to tummy. When I sit her in her boppy pillow she is almost sitting up. Lately she is always sucking on her bottom lip and makes this funny face, it's hilarious, I guess she might start teething soon. She laughed few times already but it's not consistent. Still having hard time putting her to bed, so for now we are cosleeping.
This Monday I went back to work. Fortunately I am able to work from home so I can continue nursing. My mother in law is visiting and helping out with Sofia but I really need to learn to schedule my time better because right now it seems like I have no time for anything at all.

Things have been really out of hand lately. Sofia turned four moths old on Tuesday but I haven't had time to write the birthday update. She recently decided that she will only nap while nursing. So it's pretty difficult to do anything at all. Maybe it's just a growth sprout.
New developments this month:
- She can roll over from tummy to back
- She can now get her tows with her hands. It's so cute!
- She is cooing a lot
- Loves being in a sling facing forward and loves to look around. Although some say facing forward is bad for baby's hips. I must do more research on that.

Our girl is 3 month old today. New developments this month:
- She can reach and grab a toy, then puts it into her mouth right away.
- I can see little tears now when she cries, so heartbreaking, like just crying is not enough.
- She started sleeping so much lately. She would sleep like 7 -8 hours through the night. I was a little worried first but apparently that's normal.
I coulnd't get her to smile for this photoshoot but she's been smiling a lot! Can't wait to hear her giggle!

I really wanted to finish Sofia's nursery before she was born but it was not possible, other things were a priority. I managed to make this mobile though using Cath Kidston paper. Sofie is becoming very curious now and likes to look at what's around. There still lots I'd like to get for her room, especially cute artwork to hang on walls.

Motherhood so far

It looks like this might be turning into a "mommy blog" but it's true they say that once you have children everything else fades. And for me blogging just doesn't make sense if you don't write from the heart.

Our little girl turned one month old yesterday. What a crazy month it has been. Truly an emotional rollercoaster. The first week when we just brought her home was the roughest - when she was crying non stop and you don't know how to comfort her, and your heart just breaks to see her so upset. None of the advice that you read before really work and you feel like throwing all those books out of the window. And you can't help but feeling like a you are a terrible mother. I knew my life would change dramatically and I wouldn't have time to do things I like for a long time but when it actually happens it's quite shocking. No one really talks about those nursing marathons when you literally can't get off the couch for hours. I even had this bizarre dream one night that I am chained to my couch with my arms and legs paralysed. And you worry. About everything. A lot. I am sure it will get easier as times goes by and she gets older. I am so looking forward to establishing a scheduled routine.

Other than my own emotional issues things have been great so far. I really shouldn't be complaining. She is gaining weight OK and although I had issues first I am lucky to be able to breastfeed now. She started sleeping in her bassinet last week, before she could only sleep on my chest. She still hates diaper changes and to my biggest disappointment she hates the wrap sling. I will continue trying but the poor thing just flips out when I put her in. When she falls asleep I put her into the stroller and we go for a walk in the park by Humber river. Its so beautiful down there. Here are a few snaps. I guess this is where we will be hanging out all summer.

It's amazing how your life changes one your little one arrives. The only time I am picking up my camera these days is to take pictures of her grimaces, she seems to come up with new ones each day.

p.s. I set my Etsy shop temporarily on vacation, I am hoping to reopen it soon once I am more settled into the routine.

Hi guys, I finally did it! My Etsy shop is now open!
A while ago some of you asked if I am planning to sell my prints online. So I've set up an online store, but for some reason it took me forever to figure out all the printing, packaging and shipping details. For the last couple of month I really concentrated on getting it done and managed to figure it all out! Right now I have 12 prints listed, floral for now. I am planning to add many more, including custom prints and postcards.
I want to thank you once again for all your encouragement, support and sweet comments about my photos, it means a lot to me!

learning to crochet

I think last time I did any crocheting when I was a kid, I decided to give it another try and made this Totoro toy. It turned out to be quite easy! You can make one too using this pattern. Now I wish I could make my own patterns but I guess it's too soon for that.

I wanted to share these images for a while now. All these are designed, styled and photographed by my friend Anya from Moscow. She is currently working with lace for a school project. I remember my grandmother used to have a scarf like that, very soft and lightweight. I love the lace element on the chair and the little table lamp is very cozy and wintery, don't you think?

Farmers' Market

We had to cancel our camping trip this long weekend because the weather forecast wasn't very promising. So on Saturday I surprised myself - normally I like to sleep in on weekends but I got up really early and went to the farmers' market. It's harvest time and everything looks very colorful. I got some nice filed flowers and yummy berries.

Hotel Ambos Mundos

Ambos Mundos is a beautiful hotel in central Havana. It’s famous for the fact that Ernest Hemingway lived here for a few years in room 511. The lobby and hallways look amazing. The hotel has a wonderful rooftop restaurant where you can get a mojito and enjoy the city views.

When we got to Havana is started to rain non-stop. How unfortunate. I still took lots of photos, maybe not the kind I was hoping for but anyway. I divided them by colour to make it more interesting for you.
Old Havana is beautiful. Parts of it in pretty bad shape but still you can see that it was gorgeous. I loved all the architecture, tilework and inner courtyards that every building seemed to have. You can see Spanish and Moorish influence there.

Just returned from Cuba this weekend. All mornings and evenings we spent on the beach. Warm sun, feet in sand, gentle sea breeze... It was lovely! Many more pictures to come.

First weekend of August

This weekend we went for a bicycle ride to Bronte Creek near Toronto. We rode through the woods and along corn fields. There is also a small Victorian style farm at this park with cows, horses and pigs. Really cute! I went there couple of years ago in fall, it was really beautiful. I should go back this year too.

I was gonna post these a while ago but never had a chance to. I love photography but my day job is actually in graphic design. This is an RFP that we did for a client this past winter and I really enjoyed working on it. It's just a concept magazine but I really had a lot of fun styling and taking the cover shots and laying it out. The interior photos I picked from Getty Images. I wish I could do things like this more often.

I made a blueberry meringue pie the other day. I am always having trouble with whipping the meringue but this time it worked out from the second try. The pie turned out surprisingly very good! I had to take a snap of the last piece before it was all gone. I should make some more on a weekend.

it's way too hot!

It's been reeeeaaalllyyy hot here. I remember when I first came to Toronto I was so surprised how heat felt deferent here than in my home country. It's all due to super-high humidity here. Unbelievably hot!
I picked up this floral print dress with pockets on my way from work last night, it's good for weather like this, me likey!

Canada Day long weekend at Chutes Park

This long weekend we spent at Chutes Park, six-hour drive from Toronto. We went there last year so I didn't take that many photos. It was nice to get away for a few days.

On Sunday I made an super-easy berry pie with strawberries blueberries and raspberries.
So nice to have local Ontario strawberries out in stores now, they taste so much better, don't you think?
